Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Kentucky Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be kept long enough to review and answer it. Such correspondence remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the site's systems may collect standard technical details about the visit:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- The referring website, when one is available
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
- Approximate time spent on a page
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a visitor's device. They and analytics services help measure traffic in aggregate, including which Kentucky record pages are used most and where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting performance or technical problems
- Sending a search query to the partner that runs the selected tool
- Maintaining reliable site operation and page speed
- Measuring which Kentucky resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Kentucky Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes reference material about records held by Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky Department of Corrections, the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry, Kentucky courts, and agencies in the state's 120 counties. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes displayed on some pages. Information submitted to one of those tools is governed by that provider's privacy policy. The provider, not Kentucky Criminal History, sets its retention and sharing rules. Visitors should read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Kentucky agency pages, court systems, county offices, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy governs. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Kentucky Criminal History does not control that outside tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and performance
- Search partners that process a visitor's submitted query
- Advertising networks that place or measure ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for data collected through the site. No internet-connected system can guarantee perfect security, however, and Kentucky Criminal History cannot promise that an unauthorized disclosure will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such information is identified, it may be requested for deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights concerning site data depend on applicable law and the visitor's location. The Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, applies to records held by Kentucky public agencies, not to this privately operated website. Kentucky criminal history information is separately governed by KRS 17.150 and 502 KAR 30:060. Those public-record and dissemination rules do not convert site analytics into a government record. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of eligible personal data
- Ask what personal data is held about the visitor
- Seek correction of inaccurate personal data
- Opt out of processing when applicable law supplies that choice
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised policy will appear here with an updated effective date, and continued use will be governed by the posted version.
